“Real Irish music. No Nonsense.”
You haven't really experienced Dublin until you've spent some time in a proper Irish pub, and The Cobblestone in Smithfield is a brilliant place to start.
Famous for its traditional Irish music sessions, this family-run pub brings musicians together to play live tunes in an informal, welcoming setting. Forget flashy stages and perfectly choreographed performances. This is about the music, the atmosphere and a tradition that's still very much alive.
It's a little outside the busiest tourist streets, which makes it a great excuse to explore another side of Dublin. Smithfield has plenty of character, with its historic buildings, lively square and the nearby Jameson Distillery. Make an afternoon of exploring the area before settling in for the evening.
Music sessions can vary, so check what's happening before you go. And once the tunes get going, give the musicians some space, keep conversations at a respectful volume and enjoy the moment. You don't need to know the songs or understand every tune to get caught up in the atmosphere.
Local tip: Put your phone away for a while, find a good spot and just listen. Some of the best travel memories happen when you stop trying to capture everything and enjoy being there.
