“Big green spaces. Fresh air. A break from the city buzz.”
Need a break from busy streets, packed cafes and squeezing past crowds? Phoenix Park is calling.
One of Dublin's great outdoor spaces, this enormous park is perfect for walking, running, cycling, picnicking or simply finding a patch of grass and doing absolutely nothing for a while. Sometimes the best travel plan is no plan at all.
Fancy a little exploring? Look out for landmarks such as the Wellington Monument and the Papal Cross as you wander through the park's wide avenues and open green spaces. If you're travelling with time to spare, Dublin Zoo is also here, although you'll need a separate ticket and a few extra hours.
And then there's the wildlife. Phoenix Park is famous for its fallow deer, and spotting them can be a real highlight. Just remember they're wild animals, so admire them from a distance, never feed them and don't try to touch them.
The park is huge, so don't attempt to see every corner if you're short on time. Pick an entrance, plan a manageable walk and enjoy the change of scenery.
Hostel tip: Pack some snacks, bring a waterproof jacket (this is Dublin, after all!)
